What we'd buy

Lenco Pro Control Auto if we already run Lenco SD Pro tabs. It adds Auto Pitch/Roll Hold to the tabs we have, with a 5 year warranty.

What surprised us

How much of the performance math comes from the manufacturers themselves. Lenco and Seakeeper both publish percentage claims from their own testing, so treat them as claims until an independent test says otherwise.

What we'd avoid

Buying a stabilization system before diagnosing the actual problem. Bow rise and list are a tab problem; wave-by-wave chop is an interceptor problem — they're not interchangeable fixes.

Best bang for your buck

Standard Lenco or Bennett tabs. Manual plate tabs fix holeshot and list, which covers most owners' actual complaints, and dealers quote the price for your boat size.

Built to last

Zipwake, if you want a full interceptor system. It is rated for boats up to 50 ft and speeds up to 60 knots per Zipwake.

Good enough

Manual plate tabs for most 18–22ft boats. You don't need auto-leveling if you're comfortable trimming by hand.

What's the real difference between tabs and interceptors?

Plate tabs are flat surfaces that angle down to create lift. Interceptors are vertical blades that drop into the water flow near the transom to create lift. Manufacturers publish different response claims, so ask for the test method before you compare speeds.

Do I need auto-leveling or is manual enough?

If you're comfortable trimming by hand and mostly fight holeshot and list, manual tabs are enough. Auto-leveling earns its keep in changing conditions or crowded boats where crew weight shifts constantly.

Can I upgrade from tabs to an interceptor later?

Yes, but budget for filling the old tab holes and possibly regelcoating the transom. It's a bigger job than a straight tab-to-tab swap.

Is Seakeeper Ride the same as a Seakeeper gyro?

No. Ride is a transom-mounted stabilizer using rotary blades. The Seakeeper gyro is an entirely different flywheel-based product installed inside the hull. Different product, different price point.

How permanent is a Seakeeper Ride install?

Seakeeper says the Ride installs as two controllers on the transom, one on either side of the engine or engines. Ask an authorized installer how it mounts to your hull and what removal involves.

Are the speed comparisons between brands trustworthy?

Treat them as claims. Lenco publishes results such as 54% level roll improvement and Seakeeper cites up to 70% pitch and roll reduction, and both come from the manufacturers. We have not run these tests ourselves.
